Understanding Sciatica
Pain radiating along the sciatic nerve pathway—typically from lower back through buttock and down one leg—due to nerve compression.
Sciatica describes pain that follows the path of the sciatic nerve, often caused by herniated discs or spinal issues. Symptoms may include sharp, shooting pain, tingling, or numbness in one leg. Acupressure may help by releasing tension, encouraging circulation in the lower back and legs, and easing discomfort during flare-ups.

Sciatica Pain Relief (10-15 minutes)
Treatment Protocol
- Lie on your unaffected side with knees slightly bent, or sit with affected leg extended
- Apply firm pressure to BL-40 (center of knee crease on back of affected leg) for 1-2 minutes
- Massage BL-60 (outer ankle, in depression behind ankle bone) to release nerve tension
- Press GB-30 (outer hip, in depression when lying on side) firmly - may need partner assistance
- For additional relief: add GB-34 (outer leg, below kneecap) for muscle relaxation
- For tight posterior chain: include BL-36 (center of back thigh, halfway down)
Supporting Your Recovery
Lifestyle
- Gentle Movement: Walking and light stretching may help relieve nerve pressure
- Avoid Prolonged Sitting: Take breaks to stand and stretch throughout the day
Important
- Seek Imaging: Persistent or worsening pain may require evaluation for disc herniation
- Emergency Signs: Loss of bladder control or leg weakness requires urgent care
