Understanding Epilepsy/Seizure
A neurological disorder marked by recurrent seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Epilepsy involves unpredictable surges of electrical activity in the brain, which can cause seizures ranging from brief lapses of awareness to full-body convulsions. Medical treatment is essential for managing epilepsy, but supportive therapies like acupressure may help reduce stress, promote calmness, and improve resilience between episodes.

Seizure Support (For trained caregivers only)
Treatment Protocol
- FIRST: Ensure person's safety - protect head, clear area, time the seizure, turn on side
- DURING seizure: Do NOT restrain or put anything in mouth - only apply gentle pressure to GV-26 (below nose, above lip) if trained
- AFTER seizure: Gently massage GV-20 (top of head) and GV-8 (back of head) when person is responsive
- Help ground the person: press KI-1 (bottom of foot) and LI-4 (hand web) gently
- Call emergency services if seizure lasts over 5 minutes, person doesn't wake up, or injuries occurred
Supporting Your Recovery
Lifestyle
- Sleep Hygiene: Maintain regular sleep to reduce seizure risk
- Stress Reduction: Use calming acupressure and breathing to manage triggers
Important
- Safety First: Avoid sharp objects or heights during episodes of instability
- Medication Adherence: Acupressure supports but does not replace prescribed anticonvulsants
